MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital has announced Joseph D. King, M.D., as Chief of Pediatric Anesthesiology. Dr. King brings years of expertise and dedication to advancing patient care at Le Bonheur.
Dr. King joins Le Bonheur from the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he served as Vice Chair and Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesia since 2018. A graduate of Hahnemann University School of Medicine, Dr. King completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Pennsylvania and a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He holds certifications from the American Board of Anesthesiology in both anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesia.
As Chief of Pediatric Anesthesiology, Dr. King will oversee the delivery of high-quality anesthesia services, enhance patient safety and foster innovation in pediatric care.

Dr. King received the Professionalism Award from the Department of Anesthesia in 2021 and was named Anesthesiologist of the Year by the Department of Otolaryngology in 2019. Dr. King is an active member of professional organizations, including the Society of Pediatric Anesthesia and the American Society of Anesthesiologists, and contributes to community initiatives, such as the Lanier High School Health Science Advisory Board.
In his free time King enjoys spending time with his wife and children.
