Neuroscience Institute welcomes new providers

Donald Bearden, PhD, joined Le Bonheur’s Neuroscience Institute as a pediatric neuropsychologist. Bearden is also division chief of Psychology and Behavioral Health at Le Bonheur and The University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Bearden completed his doctorate in Clinical Psychology, Neuropsychology and Behavioral Neuroscience at Georgia State University. He completed his internship in Pediatric Neuropsychology at the University of California’s Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior and his fellowship in Pediatric Neuropsychology at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He is certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology and the American Board of Neuropsychology.

Emily Hughes, MS, CGC, joined Le Bonheur’s Neuroscience Institute as a pediatric neurology genetic counselor. She completed her master’s in Genetic Counseling at Long Island University Post. She is board-certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. Hughes is committed to providing compassionate genetic counseling, prioritizing informed consent and patient empowerment.

Ridley-Pryor joins board of National Professional Advisory Committee of Epilepsy Alliance America

Tracee Ridley-Pryor, DNP, PMHNP-BC

Tracee Ridley-Pryor, DNP, PMHNP-BC, recently joined the board of the National Professional Advisory Committee (NPAC) of Epilepsy Alliance America. The committee comprises epilepsy experts across a wide range of medical disciplines. The NPAC helps to lead and advise the Board of Directors on program policy and development and ensures that programs are based on sound, scientific and evidence-based data that considers the needs of people living with epilepsy and those who care for them. Ridley-Pryor serves as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner at Le Bonheur. She also serves as director of Research Strategies and Collaboration in Pediatric Neurology, instructor of Psychiatry in the College of Medicine and assistant professor in the College of Nursing at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Ghosh certified by United Council for Neurological Subspecialties in Headache Medicine

Ankita Ghosh, MD

Le Bonheur Pediatric Neurologist Ankita Ghosh, MD, was recently certified by the United Council for Neurological Subspecialties (UCNS) in Headache Medicine. She is the only pediatric neurologist in Tennessee to be board certified in Headache Medicine. Ghosh is the director of the Neuroscience Institute’s Comprehensive Headache Center, which uses a holistic approach for acute and preventive headache treatment, lifestyle management and cognitive behavioral therapy for migraines.

Specialists receive Early Career Physician Scientist Grants

The Children’s Foundation Research Institute’s (CFRI) Early Career Physician Scientist Development Program supports clinical and basic research at Le Bonheur. The program prioritizes research proposals from junior faculty members, those less than five years out of training and interested in pursuing pediatric research.

Two of this year’s grantees came from Le Bonheur’s Neuroscience Institute. Le Bonheur Neuroscientist Negar Noorizadeh, PhD, was awarded the grant for her project “Optimizing Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery: A Comparison of sEEG and MEG in Predicting Post-Surgical Seizures,” and Le Bonheur Neurologist Ashmitha Raja, MD, received a grant for her project “Feasibility of Measuring Neuroplasticity Using Novel TMS Paradigms in Hyperkinetic Movement Disorders.”
